Assasination of Roberto Capalla, our solidarity towards PFTC Fair Trade Muscovado sugar in the Philippines

This post is to express our solidarity towards Panay Fair Trade Center (PFTC) and together to condemn the assassination of Romeo Capalla, Chairperson of PFTC Board of Directors and the burning of Kamada Muscovado Mill in Brgy. Dabong, Janiuay, Iloilo.
Romeo Capalla, 65 years old, a life spent courageously fighting for civil and human rights of small farmers and their families, was roughly assassinated on March 15, 2014.
PFTC is a Fair Trade organization of producers of Muscovado sugar with 350 small producers of organic cane sugar, banana chips and ginger chews and it is member of World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) in Panay Island since 1991. Probability
you have seen their Muscovado sugar in Fair trade and organic shops of Europe and Asia.
We want to release the declaration of PFTC (download here) and to share the message we received from PFTC manager, Mr Angel Panganiban. Here it is:
“We all want justice for Romeo. We want the immediate investigation and brought to justice the murderers of Romeo. With our concerted efforts, we can pressure the Government of the Republic of the Philippines to make immediate and appropriate actions. Because, we do believe that this dastardly crime was perpetrated by the Military.
